Undergraduate Resources

*As of December 2nd, 2016, funding applications will close for the remainder of the calendar year. Applications will re-open on January 1st, 2017 with review of applications beginning on January 9th, 2017, when school resumes. Please plan your events to occur on a date at least four weeks after January 9th, 2017.”*

There are several Undergraduate Student Government (USG) funding sources an undergraduate Recognized Student Organization qualifies for. In addition to the resources below, undergraduate RSOs may qualify for additional resources, and, if you’re an undergraduate RSO cosponsoring an event with a graduate RSO, you may be eligible for funding through Graduate Student Government (GSG), too.

All undergraduate funding resources must be completed online unless otherwise specified. Please note that reimbursements are an option, but must be approved prior to the expense being made.

Academic Research Fund

The purpose of the Academic Research Fund is to provide support for undergraduate students who conduct research projects, attend academic conferees, and pursue other research- oriented academic interests. – The Academic Research Fund may allocate up to a maximum of $800 to an individual student or project during the course of one academic year.

The Academic Research Fund is located in the USG Office, TCC 224. Discretionary Fund

The Discretionary Fund was established to fund programming events by Recognized Student Organizations which do not fall under an umbrella assembly in Program Board. It is the board’s goal to sponsor entertaining, cultural, and/or educational events which cater to the entire student body.

The maximum allocation to a single organization throughout each academic year shall be $4,100, except for the following exception. The maximum allocation throughout each academic year to an organization that attends the Treasurer’s campus-wide fall funding workshop shall be $4,300. The Discretionary Fund Board can allocate a maximum of $500 per organization. There will be no bonus added to this amount for attending the Treasurer’s Workshop.

Leadership Fund

The USG Leadership Fund provides support for Recognized Student Organizations engaging in leadership development and recognition. Among the items funded in past years are attendance at conferences, seminars, and workshops; organization of leadership retreats; and awards for leadership. Airfare and food are considered luxury items and are approved only if necessary and vital for the event.

The maximum allocation to a single organization throughout the entire year shall be $3,600, except for the following exception. The maximum allocation throughout the entire year to an organization that attends the Treasurer’s campus-wide fall funding workshop shall be $3,800.

Philanthropy Fund

USC Philanthropy Fund seeks to sponsor hands-on community service projects, giving preference to projects directly servicing the local community around the University Park and Health Science campuses. The actual activity funded must also directly involve an undergraduate Recognized Student Organization.

The maximum allocation to a single organization throughout each academic year shall be $5,000, except for the following exception. The maximum allocation throughout each academic year to a organization that attends the Treasurer’s campus-wide fall funding workshop shall be $5,200. Student organizations planning Alternative Break volunteer trips will be funded based on a per student allocation not to exceed $150 for international trips and $100 for domestic trips.

Professional Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide funding for events programmed by student-run, undergraduate Recognized Student Organizations that host events that help educate and advance students’ future professional careers.

The Undergraduate Student Government shall allocate up to $4,000 per organization, per year, except for the following exceptions. The maximum allocation throughout each year to an organization that attends the Treasurer’s campus-wide fall funding workshop shall be $4,200. The maximum allocation for a single event sponsored by two or more organizations applying for funding is $3,000. The amount shall be equally deducted from the maximum allowable semester allocations for each organization co-sponsoring the event and applying to the board.

There are 10 assemblies and 5 committees that are a part of USG Program Board and are available to co-sponsor events with Recognized Student Organizations. Program Board can provide funding, publicity, and/or manual support for co-sponsored events.
