Veterans Appreciation Week Recap | November 7-12, 2016

Monday, November 7th

Welcome and kickoff to the week

Trojan Family Room | Sample Hall with the popups | 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

We kicked off Veterans Appreciation Week with a speech given by Mark Todd, Vice Provost of Academic Operations who did the welcoming remarks. A speech was also given by Joshua Lynch, President of the Student Veterans Association.

Tuesday, November 8th

Boot Camp

Lyon Center (Group Exercise Room) | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM

From 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, Rec Sports hosted a morning boot camp style workout at the Lyon Center. Instructed by Rec Sports Fitness coordinator Karrin Moldrem, she led our veterans in a High-intensity interval training (HIIT) morning exercise.

Paracord Bracelets Workshop

Veterans Resource Center | TCC 330 | 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

We saw a great turnout for our Paracord 550 workshop! Participants came by and learned how to make their own paracord bracelets. Participants stayed put after our event to teach others and make even more 550 bracelets.

Wednesday, November 9th

Career Fair 

Tyler Park Pavilion VKC | 12:00 – 3:00 PM

All Student and Alumni Vets and Military Spouses/Families, you are invited to the Veterans Career Fair at USC! Employers from a diverse array of industries will be on campus to meet and hire you.

McCathy Quad | Sessions at 4:00 PM & 5:00 PM

Led by Trojan Veteran and actor, Juston Graber, our veterans participated in an hour long workout.

Thursday, November 10th 

Appreciation Lunch and Letter Signing with Operation Gratitude

Veterans Resource Center | TCC 330 | 12:00 – 3:00 PM

We had a good turn out for our appreciation lunch and letter signing. Many students came by to drop off numerous thank you letters to our veterans and grabbed themselves free Chipotle!

Friday, November 11th

Flag Raising

Bovard Auditorium | 6:00 AM

Held by ROTC, they led the flag raising on the eve of Veterans Day.

Veteran’s Day Luncheon

RTH 526 | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Viterbi, the School of Engineering helped celebrate our Active Military and Veterans on. We had a great turnout and veterans had a good time networking with one another.

Appreciation Reception with USC Occupational Therapy

Town & Gown | 5:30 – 7:30

Dr. Clark and the OT Department recognized those people who have served our country, and their families who supported them. It was a good time. The reception featured keynote speaker Dr. Jennifer Hermans who is a past military intelligence analyst and current occupational therapist. Live music from Justin Abrams and Beyond Conception.

Saturday, November 12th

Habitat For Humanity

Our veterans came out, rolling deep together to Bellflower as they helped serve people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. Habitat LA recognizes that our veteran population is rapidly growing, with thousands throughout Los Angeles struggling to meet everyday needs, including safe, and affordable housing. It was really fun!

 

USC Veteran Transfer Advisement Lunch | October 14th, 2016
The USC Veterans Resource Center and Veteran’s Association hosted our third USC Veteran Transfer Advisement Lunch. This luncheon advised prospective community college veteran transfer students on applying to USC and the programs and services USC offers to veterans. We had over 50 veterans from various community colleges across the southland attend our luncheon.
USC Football vs. Colorado (Military Appreciation Game) | October 8th, 2016 
October 8th was Military Appreciation Day! Our USC Trojans faced Colorado at the Coliseum. Members of the Veterans Association at USC and USC ROTC were honored during at pre-game and during the half-time show. Thank you to all the veterans who were in attendance!
USC Veterans Assoc. x ASME Tailgate | October 1st, 2015
The Veterans Association in collaboration with the American Society of mechanical Engineers hosted a tailgate on Saturday, October 1st, 2016. Many members of ASME and the Veterans Association came out hungry, joyous, and ready to cheer our Trojans onto victory!
Welcome Back BBQ | Friday, August 31, 2016

The Veterans Resource Center held a Welcome Back BBQ for all of our fellow Trojan Veterans and friends to kick off the new school year. From 11 AM to 2 PM at Alumni Park, everyone hung out and caught up with familiar faces they haven’t seen in a while. At the conclusion of the BBQ, everyone left in high spirits and looked forward to another grand semester at USC.

 

 Student Veteran Summer Orientation| Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

Transfer Veteran students were welcomed onto campus by various campus resources including the Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity, Disability Services and Programs, Career Center, Engemann Student Health Center among others. Incoming students had the opportunity to meet with their academic department to review academic expectations as well as curriculum for their academic units, which was followed by course registration. The end of orientation featured a networking session in which the Veterans Association and the USC Alumni Veterans Network brought current students and alumni to speak with incoming students.

Veteran Graduation Reception | Thursday, May 12th, 2016

The Veterans Resource Center hosted a Veteran Graduation Reception on Thursday, May 12th at 9:30am in TCC 450 (UPC). We  celebrated all of our 2016 Veteran Graduates, who received a memento acknowledging their service and graduation.  Gallery of photos.

Student Veteran Transfer Advisement Luncheon| Friday, April 8th, 2016
In parternship with teh Veterans Association, we hosted over thirty prospective Trojans who learned about the resources available to student veterans at USC. Attendees heard from Office of Admission as well as from our certification office to understand the process of receiving benefits while attending USC.

USC Veterans’ Week 2015 | November 11- 13, 2015
The Veterans Resource Center hosted Veterans’ week in celebration of our veterans. Events included A Salute to USC Veterans Photo Display, Veterans Day Lunch, and a screening and Discussion of “Veterans Hotline.”
In conjunction with the Political Student Assembly and Speakers Committee, the VRC hosted a screening and discussion about post-service life.
